Description
The Easington Colliery War Memorial is located at the center of Easington Colliery Cemetery, south of the Easington Colliery Disaster Memorial. It features a version of Sir Reginald Blomfield’s Cross of Sacrifice, made from pale grey granite. The cross, which has a reversed sword in bronze, rises from an octagonal pedestal. This pedestal is set on a three-stepped, octagonal granite base, which is elevated by an additional two steps made from a different material.
On the front face of the pedestal, a wreath with ribbons is carved in low relief, enclosing the dedication "OUR/ GLORIOUS/ DEAD/ 1914-1918," with the years "1939 - 1945" below in attached metal figures. The names of the First World War service personnel being commemorated are inscribed on the remaining faces of the pedestal, while the names from the later conflict are listed on the faces of the two uppermost granite steps of the base.
