Description

Lintzford House is probably late 18th century with early 19th-century additions. It served as the residence of the owner of a nearby paper mill in the 19th century. The house is constructed of sandstone ashlar to the front, with pebble-dashed rendered surfaces to the returns and rear, and ashlar dressings. The roofs are of graduated Lakeland slate. The house comprises two blocks linked by a recessed entrance bay. The main block on the right has two storeys and five bays, while the set-back service wing to the left features two wide bays across two storeys. The recessed entrance bay is also two storeys high. The main entrance has a six-panel double door and a patterned fanlight, both set within a tooled architrave, surmounted by a frieze and cornice. Most windows are sash windows with fine glazing bars, flat stone lintels, and slightly projecting first-floor stone sills. The ground floor of the right block includes late 19th-century sashes and one 20th-century window, all with matching lintels; a ground-floor sill band is also present. A first-floor band and a cyma-moulded gutter cornice run along the top of the building. The roofs are hipped, with the left side lower than the right. The left roof has a ridge chimney, and the right roof features two rear chimneys, all constructed of corniced ashlar.
