Description

The Welcome public house, with surrounding walls and piers, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring stone gable copings. The building is two storeys high and has three bays. Steps lead up to the centrally located entrance, which has a 4-panel door and a 4-pane overlight, all within a plain stone surround. The windows in the outer bays have similar surrounds; the ground floor windows contain late 19th-century sash windows, while the first-floor windows have 20th-century glazing. Banded chimneys are at each end, with the right-hand chimney having a tapered square yellow pot. The side returns feature a round-headed sash window with intersecting glazing bars. Low area walls with chamfered coping run along the front, and plain round-topped gate piers flank the lowest step.
