Description

Vauxhall Bridge is a swing bridge that crosses the River Avon, built in 1900. The superstructure was constructed by Lysaght's, and the hydraulic gear was supplied by Armstrong Whitworth. The bridge is made of pennant rubble and steel. It features a square pier on the south bank of the New Cut, with cutwaters that are separated by an arch at the bottom. This supports a round drum and lattice swing bridge that tapers towards the north bank, where it is supported by a smaller pier that includes a steel staircase leading to Cumberland Road. The south bank has a battered abutment with coped walls that open onto Coronation Road. The bridge has not been opened since 1936.
