Description
Tower Bridge, located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, was opened in 1894 and designed by Sir John Wolfe Barry, with architectural features by Sir Horace Jones. It is a bascule bridge with a suspended approach and high-level footbridges connecting its twin stone towers, showcasing a French chateau influence. The bridge features massive cast iron balustrades and still utilizes hydraulic machinery to open. The remainder of the bridge is situated in Southwark. Tower Bridge and its approach are part of a group that includes the London Hydraulic Power Company Subways Entrance, eight bollards outside the main entrance to the Tower of London, the Tower itself, the Queen's Stairs, and Tower Hill.
