Description
The Coach and Horses Public House is an 18th-century coaching inn that continues to operate as a public house, though it has undergone modern alterations. The building is two stories high with rendered elevations and a steeply pitched slated roof, featuring gable end chimneys that have been rebuilt in brick. The front elevation, facing south, has three windows that are twelve-paned horned sashes with modern shutters, and a central doorway topped by a semi-circular headed porch.
To the east, there is a lower two-story extension, likely from the 19th century, which has a central doorway with a matching porch that is now blocked. The first floor of this extension features three three-light fixed windows, also with shutters. At the rear, there is a large lean-to extension with a gabled wing at the eastern end.
Inside, the building has been modernized, but some historic features remain, including large open fireplaces at each end of the bar and exposed rubble walling. Notably, the timber lintel above the fireplace in the eastern cell has the inscription "TAN DDA AELWYD LAN ALODES LAWEN."
