Description

Malpas Court is a 19th-century country house designed in an early Tudor style. It is constructed from brown rock-faced stone and features stone chimneys, as well as mullion and transom windows. The house has two storeys plus attics, with the main block facing northeast and a recessed service wing to the northwest, creating an L-shaped layout.

The entrance block is gabled and flanked by octagonal buttresses topped with pinnacles. At the top of the gable, there is a bird and a heraldic shield. The first floor includes an oriel window, and the entrance doorway features a hoodmould and a Tudor arch, leading to a panelled door. To the left of the entrance, there is a polygonal tower that was formerly castellated, with narrow windows and a turret-like chimney. To the right, the recessed block has a two-storey gabled bay with a three-light window on the first floor above a splayed bay window, with narrow windows on either side.

Further to the right, set back, is the two-storey service wing, which has four windows and two gablets. The southeast elevation of the main block has three windows and two pinnacled gables. The central doorway on the first floor is flanked by three-light windows, while the ground floor features a semi-octagonal porch with elliptical arches, spandrels that contain carved foliage, and the initials ‘C’ and ‘P’. The doorway has a hoodmould and an overlight, with four-light mullion and transom windows on each side. The southwest side of the main block consists of three bays with advanced gabled end bays, and the ground floor has a splayed window to the left, with a three-light window above it between the end bays, while the ground floor also features a splayed bay window. The two-storey service wing with gablets is located to the left.
