Description
Nos 1-4 (consec) Model Cottages. A small terrace of estate workers' cottages built in a vernacular style in 1891. Two storeys with sandstone ashlar ground storeys and mock timber framing above with red tile roofs. The terrace is in five bays with bays 1, 3 and 5 as gabled wings projecting forward. Between the gables are verandahs with pentice tiled roofs with the entrance to the four cottages at each end of the verandahs. There are two plain windows in each verandah while each gable end has a 3-light mullion and transom casement. The upper floor has two panels with cross-bracing set below the windows in the gables, otherwise it has plain square framing with rendered panels. Cross framed casement to each gable, 3 light mullion and transom casement in a gabled dormer in the roofs between the gables. All the windows other than the ground floor one of No 4 are in character, but appear to be modern replacements. Chimney stacks at either end, in the centre and on the rear slope behind each dormer, all with tall clay pots. Rear elevation not seen.
This has the only original ground floor window.
Interior not seen at resurvey.
