Description
4 Pen-y-pound is a two-storey house dating from the early 18th century. It features roughcast render painted with a natural slate roof and rendered stacks. The building has a double depth central entry plan with a wing extending to the left rear. The front facade includes five windows and a six-panelled door topped with a hood supported by carved brackets. The windows are flush framed 6 over 6 pane sashes arranged symmetrically. The roof is hipped and bell-cast with overhanging eaves, and there are two roof-lights at the front, along with a chimney on the right wall and left return. To the left, there is a return range with additional 6 over 6 pane sash windows.
While the early 18th-century design of the front range is still evident, significant Victorian alterations have been made to the interior. During the recent survey, only the ground floor and staircase were inspected. The staircase, original to 1716, is a dog-leg design featuring turned balusters from the ground to the first floor and barley sugar balusters above. It has a closed string, with the balustrade continuing on the wall side, a moulded handrail, and square newels topped with ball finials.
