Description
The stables, coach house, and attached boundary walls at Shirenewton Hall are constructed from rubble and feature hipped slate roofs, wide eaves, and rubble stacks. The buildings form a long range that backs onto the Crick road, with a two-storey coach house at the center, flanked by single-storey stable ranges.
The front elevation facing the garden has a two-window centerpiece, with a central arched door and arched windows on either side. The hipped roof has two stacks. Each flanking wing contains three openings with arched heads set in recesses. Some alterations were noted as the buildings were being converted into housing at the time of the visit.
On the rear elevation facing Crick Road, the coach house features small pane windows in the center, with semicircular-headed openings on the ground floor, one of which is glazed to the left and blocked to the right. The left-hand stable range has two similar openings, while the right-hand stable range consists of six bays, with five lunettes and one taller window topped by a louvred bellcote and weathervane. To the right, the wall curves inward to the stable yard entrance, which has boarded gates. Additional single-storey ranges are located to the right, with one cross frame window. The garden front of these ranges was not visible during the resurvey, but they have been converted into housing.
The rubble wall wraps around to the right and leads up to the main drive entrance. To the left of the coach house and stables, the boundary wall is stepped and features a sunk arch treatment at the far end. The buildings were not available for inspection at the time of the resurvey.
