Description
The Salvation Army Citadel is a building with a stuccoed and painted exterior, topped with a natural slate roof. It features a gabled end facing the street. The quoin pilasters that were noted in the previous listing description from 1974 have been removed. The central entrance consists of a basket arched doorway with plank doors and a Gothic overlight. This doorway is flanked by two round-headed windows that have Gothic style interlace tracery in the upper lights and 16 over 16 pane sash windows. The gable has plain bargeboards, which are likely replacements. A plaque on the building reads 'TABERNACLE PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHAPEL ERECTED 1830'. The roof has a plain low pitch. The interior is plain and has been modernised, but as a Primitive Methodist chapel, it would have originally been very simple. The rear elevation has not been inspected.
