Description
The surrounding walls, including the gateway, steps, and postbox at the Catholic Church of St Alban, are constructed from squared limestone rubble and serve as the church boundary along Conway Road and as retaining walls along George Street. The walls extend from the southwest in front of the presbytery, featuring a steep gabled pediment above a round-headed archway that mirrors the entrance of the presbytery. The walls have coping and ball finials on the kneelers and apex. In front of the church's apse, the wall is reduced to a batter, with a rounded corner at George Street. This section, along with the part facing George Street, includes coping and metal railings. A corner section displays a crucifix along with figures of Our Lady and St John. The section along George Street has a pierced area in front of the south door of the church, with ramped stairs on both the left and right sides, dressed stone piers, and coping. There is a blocked round-headed doorway to the right, and a wall-mounted postbox from the reign of Edward VII is incorporated into the curved corner along George Street.
