Description
This is a two-storey terrace of four cottages, built of stone and originally colour-washed, dating to the 18th century. The terrace has a double-fronted appearance with two windows per cottage. The front is of colour-washed rubble stone, and the roof is of undulating slate with three mostly rendered yellow brick stacks. Numbers 3 and 4 are stepped up the gentle slope and feature cambered-headed openings on the ground floor. Although the size of the window openings has not been altered, the glazing has been changed, with a variety of top-hung casements now in place. Number 3 has a six-pane metal frame with a top-hung casement, which potentially survives from the original construction. All openings have painted surrounds, with rough or tooled stone sills and brick voussoirs. The first-floor windows are set directly under the eaves. Cottages 1 and 4 have boarded doors. There are lean-tos at each end, one with applied pebble dash and timbering to the downhill gable. Outshuts extend from the rear, each with a catslide roof, and a large stack is visible on the rear of number 1. The front has a shallow apron of flagstones and brick.
The entrance to number 1 opens directly into the main room, which contains a fireplace and steep wooden spiral stairs behind the door. A small parlour opens off the main room. The boarded doors retain their original surrounds.
