Description

The Court House is a long, two-storey building constructed with roughcast and topped by a steep, stone-tiled roof. It features two squat rendered ridge stacks and an end stack on the left. The central gabled porch, likely from the 20th century, has bargeboards and a planked door. There are four windows on each storey, arranged irregularly: three windows to the left of the entrance (with the central one converted from a door) and one to the right. The windows are four-pane sash types of various sizes, some with horns, mainly featuring raised surrounds and flat heads, with those on the upper storey extending to the eaves. In the upper storey, three windows are symmetrically placed above the door and flanking windows, with one window on the far left. A small lean-to is located on the left front, while the west gable end has one window. The east gable end has two small lean-tos with a window above. Single-storey ranges with hipped roofs extend around to the rear from the east end, including two late 20th-century glazed two-storey pavilions.

The current entrance, flanked by symmetrical windows likely from the 19th century, leads to a large room that incorporates elements of the medieval court house. A large stack on the left has back-to-back fireplaces, probably from the 17th century. The fireplace in the main room features a timber lintel and a small recess with a stone lintel on its left side. There is a bar at the rear, a small fireplace on the right with a timber lintel, and a toilet block beyond. The west room, dating from the 17th century, has a fireplace on the east with a timber lintel, which may have been replaced. A doorway, now converted to a window, is opposite the stack and would have originally formed a lobby entrance. Behind the stack is a passage with remnants of a fireplace staircase. The window in the west gable end is an infill of a former fireplace. The first floor is cut away in the west room, revealing lap-jointed collar trusses with tie beams supported on short ties. The main range is said to have trusses consisting of low collars dovetail-lap jointed to the rafters and short braces.
