Description
Llechau is a four-unit house, likely dating to the 17th century, with a later addition, built on a slope. The house is constructed of rubble stone, originally lime-washed, and has a slate roof. A large, late 20th-century kitchen extension, built of blockwork, projects to the east and rear. The windows are 20th-century replacements, consisting of 2-light wooden casements with segmental heads and timber lintels. The west gable end has a segmental arch at ground floor level, now infilled. The rear elevation is dominated by a projecting two-gable extension.
The house has two roughcast stacks, one at the west end and another to the left of the centre. Inside, the entrance is positioned roughly where a 17th-century entrance would have been, leading into an altered and extended outer room that now contains a late 20th-century staircase. A timber doorway with a shallow Tudor head leads to the hall, which has been repositioned due to a moved partition wall. The hall features a large stone fireplace with a flat, chamfered timber lintel; a wall has been inserted to the left side of the lintel, likely concealing a former bake oven. To the right of the fireplace is a doorway to the west room, with straight stone stairs leading down to the basement. Above the stairs are the remains of a stone fireplace staircase with wooden treads, previously entered through a timber doorway with a shallow Tudor head. Chamfered cross beams with ogee stops remain throughout the ground floor. A large room to the west of the hall contains cross beams and a smaller fireplace with a chamfered timber lintel; a doorway was formerly in the south wall.
The basement comprises two rooms. The western room has a large fireplace with a flat, chamfered timber lintel, alongside a bake oven and wash basin. A former window opening in the south wall is now blocked and partially below ground level.
The roof has been slightly raised, but original A-frame trusses and fragments of the wall plate remain.
