Description
Nos 1-19 Windsor Esplanade comprise a range of houses built in the 19th century using snecked grey and brown local sandstone, with bathstone dressings and slate roofs. The houses are generally three windows wide and two storeys high, with round-headed attic dormers concealed behind a decorative bathstone parapet, portions of which are now lost. The two houses at each end of the terrace, along with the central three, project slightly forward and have pinnacled gable shapes with bathstone copings. Square-headed windows with hoodmoulds are set within these gables. The central house has a slightly narrower and lower shaped gable. A bathstone cornice sits above a band of red brick and red and black terracotta tiles. Window and door surrounds are in bathstone with rectangular hood moulds, and a bathstone band course runs at first floor sill level. The first floor windows are single windows above the doorways, with paired windows over semi-hexagonal ground floor bay windows which have cornices and low parapets. The central house differs with three single windows on the first floor and an additional ground floor window to the right of the bay. The glazing has been largely replaced. The west-facing return is rendered with a broad shaped gable, while the east-facing return is in stone with a triangular gable and two blocked windows on each floor.
