Description
Nos 1-19 Windsor Esplanade comprise a row of houses built in the 19th century. The houses are constructed from snecked grey and brown local sandstone, with decorative bathstone dressings. The roofs are generally slate, with red brick chimneys. Each house has three windows, two storeys in height, and round-headed attic dormers set behind a decorative, pierced bathstone parapet, parts of which are now missing. The two houses at each end of the terrace, and the central three houses, project slightly forward. These houses have pinnacled shaped gables with bathstone copings, and contain square-headed windows with hoodmoulds. The central house has a slightly narrower and lower shaped gable. A bathstone cornice runs along the building, below which is a band of red brick and red and black terracotta tiles. Window and door surrounds are made of bathstone, with rectangular hood moulds. Bathstone band courses are visible at first floor sill level. The first floor windows are single above the doorways and paired above ground floor semi-hexagonal bay windows with cornices and low parapets. The central house differs in window arrangement with three single windows to the first floor and an additional window on the ground floor to the right of the bay window. The window glazing has been largely replaced. The western return is rendered and features a broad, shaped gable. The eastern return is in stone with a triangular gable and two blocked windows on each floor.
