Description

Pwll-coch farmhouse and adjoining barn form a single range with a common roofline. The barn's uphill ground floor bay is incorporated into the dwelling. The structure features battered whitewashed stone rubble walls and an artificial slate roof with rooflights and a central brick ridge stack. It is two storeys high and has single-pane casement windows, most of which have 20th-century glazing. The rear elevation facing the lane has a small gabled porch made of painted brick at the centre, with windows on either side; the leftmost window has a cambered head. On the first floor, there is a similar window under the eaves to the right and a smaller staircase window adjacent to the central stack. The garden-facing elevation has asymmetrical windows and another gabled porch.

The attached barn range sits on boulder footings and features part-blocked double doors with a timber lintel, as well as ventilation slits on the downhill bay and a cobbled apron. The downhill gable end has a lean-to and lacks a gable opening. A garden wall extends from the house, creating a small enclosure around the front porch and acting as a retaining wall for the higher ground at the uphill end, which includes a pump and a small spring channel against the downhill side.

The farmhouse has a baffle entry from the lane. The main north room is reported to have a fireplace with stairs beside it, a chamfered beam with a broach stop, and an intermediate partition wall with an ovolo stopped beam. Above this is a chamfered principal rafter with run-out stops. The south room is said to have two chamfered beams with ovolo stops. The barn interior consists of three bays and retains remains of lath and plaster against the house wall.
