Lodge at entrance to Howells School

The building is a lodge at the entrance to Howells School, constructed from uncoursed squared lias limestone with Forest of Dean ashlar dressings and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The original section is one storey high, while a later extension at the rear is two storeys. Designed in a plain Gothic cottage style, the north-east elevation facing the street features one storey with two bays; the right bay is wider and gabled, containing a three-light mullioned window with a segmental relieving arch, while the left bay has a doorway with a pointed head. There is an oculus in the gable, coped gables, ridge tiles, and a stack on the rear wing. The north-west elevation, which faces the school entrance, has a gable end with a single light window and a two-light window behind in the cross wing. At the rear, the later two-storey extension is built in a similar style. The interior was not seen during the resurvey.
