Description
6 Merthyr Road is part of a two-storey terrace of 10 cottages, numbered 4 to 22, that open directly onto the pavement. The cottages are constructed from narrow coursed rubble, featuring stone voussoirs above door and window openings, with regular dressed stone quoins and rendered sides. They have a Welsh slate roof with narrow red brick ridge corniced stacks, each topped with three pots.
All units, except for number 14, have a single window range and a door on the front elevation, with a ground floor layout consisting of two rooms arranged one behind the other. Number 14 has a three-window range and a central door, with a central staircase layout. The original small-pane sash windows have mostly been replaced with two-light casements on the first floor and transomed casements on the ground floor, some featuring rendered surrounds and slightly cambered heads, along with replaced doors. The cottages are set behind a low masonry revetment that slopes down to the right.
Originally, staircases rose beside the front room fireplace in most cottages, except for the central staircase in number 14, with some staircases still retained. There are some stone flagged floors and slabs from former pantries, and the ground floor ceiling joists are of thin scantling, with some exposed.
