Description
The entrance block to the Royal Arcade, which includes the Royal Arcade itself, is a three-storey building with a three-bay facade featuring projecting end bays topped with gables. The building has a slate roof with overhanging eaves supported by modillions. On the second floor, each end bay contains a paired round-headed window with a foliated drip mould and a roundel above, while the centre bay has a paired segmental-headed window. A cornice runs above the first floor, and the first and ground floors are accented with quoins. The ground floor features rusticated Venetian windows set in moulded round-headed arches, with string courses at the impost level that run continuously across the front. The centre bay on the ground floor serves as the entrance to the Royal Arcade, flanked by plate glass shop fronts in the end bays. The arcade itself extends through to The Hayes and is numbered 48, with odd numbers on the north side and even numbers on the south side. The arcade boasts a glass roof supported by fretted iron ribs and large three-light windows on the upper floors.
