Description

The lychgate of the Church of St. John the Baptist is a timber structure supported on low walls made of Radyr stone. It features a gabled roof that is covered with tiles and topped with a cruciform finial. The lychgate has a heavy wooden double gate that spans a single opening and swings on a central pivot, equipped with pulleys. On the south-west side of the lychgate, there is a plaque that reads: "THIS GATE WAS ERECTED BY FRANKLIN GEORGE EVANS JUSTICE OF THE PEACE FOR GLAMORGAN & MONMOUTH OF LLWYNARTHAN CASTLETON, MONMOUTH FORMERLY OF TYNANT RADYR AND FOR 12 YEARS CHURCHWARDEN OF THIS PARISH AD 1899 G E HALLIDAY ARCHITECT."
