Description
Walterstone Fach is a two-storey building with four bays, featuring limewashed rubble elevations beneath a thatched roof with eyebrows. It has three rendered and painted white stacks, two at the gables and one axial. The building has modern timber windows fitted into original openings. At the southwest end, there is a substantial linked modern two-storey extension.
The front elevation includes three casements on the ground floor, along with a square stair window. On the first floor, there are four two-light casements, three of which are located beneath the eyebrows. The rear elevation has six two-light casements on the ground floor and a four-centred dressed stone doorway at the southwest end. Additionally, two casements at the northwest end are set into a large blocked-up opening, while the first floor features seven two-light casements.
The ground floor has a three-cell plan, with the southwest and northeast cells believed to date from the later 16th century. The southwest cell contains a large open fire with a replaced timber bressumer at the south end, and a cross corner stair rises on the north side. This stair has a cross slab roof and polished limestone treads, accessed through a low four-centred timber doorway with a modern door. There are four exposed beams with hollow chamfers and hollow stops with fillets. At the north end, there is a plank and muntin screen leading to a small inner room on the north side, which has a stone four-centred doorway on its south side.
To the east of the hall, three exposed beams feature broad chamfers and broached stops, and there is a large open fire at the east end with a cross corner stair on the north side, accessed via a three-centred timber doorway with a plain chamfer. The first floor has a longitudinal corridor running east to west on the north side, with exposed principal rafters extending to collar level, some having angled curved feet and plain chamfers. Other roof details are not visible.
