Description
The walls of the walled gardens at Fonmon Castle are constructed from local limestone rubble and vary in height between about 2 meters and 3 meters. Some sections are capped with flat coping stones, while others are partly broken at the tops. The walls differ in thickness, and some may be older than others. They enclose three main garden compartments that are continuous with each other. To the north of the house is a long narrow garden, to the north-west is a large square garden, and to the west is a later narrow garden. The main north and east walls are particularly thick and may relate to a medieval bailey or be built from stone taken from the medieval walls.
