Description
The forecourt walls, railings, and gates to Ebenezer Chapel are notable features dating from the 19th century. The entrance is marked by centrally-placed ashlar gate piers that have chamfered angles and bases with chamfered top edges, topped with ornate capstones. These piers are flanked by low snecked walls that support short iron railings. The railings have uprights adorned with alternating fleur-de-lis and scrolled finials. Between the uprights and below the top rail are open arches with decorated cusped heads. A frieze of small quatrefoils is positioned between the double bottom rails, which also feature fleur-de-lis finials. The double iron gates at the entrance are designed in a similar style, showcasing three bands of quatrefoils, with finials on the upper ones. The end piers are made of ashlar to match the gate piers, and they connect to rubble stone walls that return to the east and adjoin the chapel. On the north face of the south wall, there is an oval iron plaque inscribed with 'ebenezer/ baptist church/ 1836'.
