Description
The Tabernacle Chapel is a classical-style building constructed with roughcast and topped with a slate roof. Its three-bay front features rusticated dressings and pilasters with moulded capitals, all beneath a plain cornice that leads to a pedimented gable. The outer bays are adorned with tall round-headed windows, while the central bay contains double panelled doors topped by a semi-circular overlight. Above the doors, there is a three-light window with a segmental head, featuring round-headed lights, with the center light being wider. The pediment displays an elliptical tablet that records the name and date of the chapel. Attached walls flank the building, set back from the angles.
The left side wall has five tall round-headed windows, and the right side wall mirrors this design. At the rear, there is a narrow lean-to that also features round-headed windows similar to those on the sides.
Inside, the vestibule includes coloured glass panels opposite the doorway, panelled doors leading to the main chapel, and moulded newels and balusters for the gallery stairs. The main chapel boasts a panelled ceiling with moulded ribs and three ceiling roses. A three-sided raked gallery is supported by thin cast iron columns with moulded capitals and features a panelled front. Behind the pulpit is a plain baluster front that houses the organ, which is set within an earlier semi-circular arch, possibly intended as a stage for choirs, similar to the arrangement at nearby Horeb Chapel. The pulpit itself is polygonal with a fretwork-panelled front, flanked by steps that have turned balusters and square newels.
