Description
The Tavern PH and Ye Olde Wine Shoppe is a three-storey building with an attic, featuring a narrow gabled frontage and a distinctive black and white treatment. It has slate roofs with a cross-gable design, bargeboards, and a two-light attic window fitted with small-pane casements. The building showcases a projecting moulded eaves cornice supported by ironwork brackets. The central bay is two storeys high, adorned with stringcourses and lean-to side roofs covered in fishscale tiles, which are held up by scrolled brackets. Each storey contains four-light windows with small-pane casements beneath transoms, and fleur-de-lys brace-plates.
The ground floor features animal head corbels above a segmental arch, leading to a recessed small-pane bowed bar front with doors on either side. The doors are decorated with nailhead studs and fitted with ironwork plates and strapwork hinges. Various ironwork brackets are present, including an octagonal lantern positioned over the entrance.
Inside, the building retains contemporary half-timber fittings, which include grotesque head corbels, quatrefoil and arched panels, an open balustered staircase, and beamed ceilings.
