Description

8 Tower Street is a range of terraced houses dating from the 18th century. The building comprises a group of eight properties, although numbers 1 and 8 have rendered and roughcast frontages, while numbers 2 and 3 have whitewashed plaster on their first floors. Numbers 4, 6, and 7 create projecting pavilions, with number 4 further emphasised by a pedimented cross-gable. The houses have slate roofs, boarded eaves, three cement-rendered and two brick chimney stacks. The windows are recessed 12-pane sashes, except for a single sash window on the ground floor of number 2. Lugged architraves frame the south front of number 49 and the one-window front of number 1. The entrance to number 3 has been altered, with a sash window now filling the space where an arched doorway once stood. The other properties have arched entrances of two orders, each with a keystone. Numbers 1 to 3 and 7 have four-panel doors, while number 4 features a five-pane fanlight. Number 7 has a one-window front that rounds the corner, leading to a similar three-window facade of rough-dashed rendering on number 8. Deep pilasters support the ground floor of number 49, which also features a large shop window.
