Description
The Old House at Pentre Farm is a late 16th century to early 17th century sub-medieval farmhouse that has undergone recent restoration and extension.
The exterior features a two-storey rubble construction, which was formerly limewashed, with a battered base and a slate roof. A prominent chimney breast is located on the west gable end, showcasing twin diagonally-set stacks. The north and south elevations each have two timber-framed, diamond-mullioned windows; the north side has a 4-light window on the first floor, while the south side features a 5-light window on the east gable end, accompanied by a 3-light window at the gable apex. Simple stone dripmoulds are present above the windows. The farmhouse has off-centre doors leading to a former cross-passage, with renewed boarded doors set in cambered-arched doorways. To the left of the entrance on the north front, there is a long stone seat, and on the east gable end, outside steps lead up to a first-floor doorway. A two-storey extension was added in 1995.
Inside, the farmhouse retains stop-chamfered ceiling beams in the former hall, although the post and panel partition now only survives on the first floor. The interior also features splayed window recesses and a 3-bay A-frame roof with through purlins. The building is listed for its special interest as a sub-medieval farmhouse that still retains good detail.
