Description
The Limekilns at Clydach Limeworks are a large rectangular kiln dating from the 19th century, constructed with battered walls made of rock-faced limestone. Some rock-faced copings are still visible. The kiln features paired round-headed drawing arches on the left and right, which are set within shallow straight-headed recesses. The arch-rings are made of yellow brick and consist of three header courses. There are small corner stoking-holes, and a narrow central doorway with a stone lintel leads to a full-height straight flight of narrow stone steps that ascend to the loading stage. Although the crucibles are infilled, the stair remains accessible.
