Description

Capel Iwan is an Independent chapel built in 1846, constructed from coursed grey stone with cut stone voussoirs, featuring bracketed eaves and a hipped slate roof. The lateral facade includes a plinth, two large arched windows at the center, two arched doors with 20th-century fanlights, and two arched outer gallery lights. All windows have late 19th-century 2-light and roundel tracery, with concrete sills. The doors are 20th-century ledged. A plaque between the center windows reads 'Capel Iwan Adeiladwyd 1723, Ailadeilwyd 1795, 1846, Atgyweiriwyd 1883, 1955'.

Each end wall has one window per floor, and there is a late 19th-century or early 20th-century roughcast vestry addition at the rear with a brick stack on the north end.

The front courtyard is enclosed by late 19th-century low iron railings on a rubble wall. The main south gates feature yellow brick piers and scrolled ironwork, while the east side gates are plainer.

The interior, apparently from 1883, has a flat panelled ceiling and a three-sided gallery supported by five iron columns. The gallery angles are curved, and the gallery front is made of pitch-pine with a continuous band of pierced cast-iron scrollwork. The pulpit has a three-arch front with steps on each side, and there are pitch-pine pews.
