Description
Bont-ar-Towy is a Grade II* listed five-arched road bridge, partly located in the Llangadog Community. The main section of the bridge features three broad segmental arches, while there are two additional arches over the eastern flood-plain. The main bridge is well-crafted, showcasing flush cut-stone voussoirs for the arches, small coursed stones in the spandrels, and a raised band beneath the parapet. It has raised dividing piers above four triangular cutwaters on each side. The cutwaters have stepped triangular tops, with the outer ones being more elaborate, featuring half-pyramid tops topped with half-sphere finials, which are divided laterally by a square slab. Although the parapets are likely rebuilt, one includes a datestone from 1819, and the rock-faced limestone copings appear to be from the later 19th century. There are raised ridged blocks over the end piers. The smaller two-arch bridge to the east is similar, with matching parapets but lacks the band under the parapet, and the parapets are splayed out at both ends of the bridge.
