Description
Old Pontammon Mill is a flour mill constructed from squared rubble stone with some brick dressings and blockings, topped with slate roofs. The structure has largely collapsed as of 1993, featuring a stone stack at the southwest end. Externally, it appears to have two storeys with a full-height opening to the central hoist area, and various window openings that have simple wood frames or are blocked under plain timber or stone voussoir lintels. There is a wheelpit at the northeast without a wheel, and an opening in the wall for the drive shaft. The rear lean-tos have collapsed.
The mill was derelict in 1988 and has deteriorated further by 1993, but it still retains most of the drive machinery, including shafts, gearing, and millstones. A D-frame truss supports the main vertical timber drive shaft. Additionally, there is a former miller's house located within the southwest end of the building.
