Description
30 North Street is a Grade II listed cottage that is a single-storey, two-bay end of terrace building. It features a roughcast exterior with a plain plinth and a slate roof, topped with a gable stack. The front has four light sash windows with margin glazing and projecting cills, along with a central door that has three moulded panels. The lower panel is raised and fielded, featuring a wide margin and a central incised panel, and there is a plain overlight above the door.
Attached to the gable is a mid-20th century cement rendered garage, which is not of special interest. At the rear, there is a central hipped wing that contains the kitchen, which has a 12 light sash window at the gable end and two sash windows on either side of the main cottage. A replacement rear door is located on the left side of the kitchen wing, and there are store and WC extensions added to the side. To the right of the kitchen wing, there is a lower lean-to store extension that fills the gap with the next door property.
The interior of the cottage remains largely intact and retains many quality original fittings in a classical style, with subtle distinctions between the rooms. The layout consists of a two-room double depth plan with a central hallway that extends all the way through to the rear kitchen wing.
The front rooms and hallway feature deep two-tier skirtings, while the rear room has beaded skirtings. The doors are four-panel with mouldings and deep architrave surrounds. The front part of the hallway has a deep cornice that leads up to a three-centred arch with engaged pilasters, becoming plain beyond that point. Built-in cupboards are located beside the fireplaces, with the front right cupboard having moulded circular heads, pilasters, and a dado cupboard and shelf above. The front left cupboard has been removed, and there are narrow single cupboards in the rear rooms. The front rooms have shutters and plain fireplace surrounds, with the front right surround replaced and the rear right surround removed.
