Description
The stable block at Cottesmore is a single-storey structure built in the 19th century, featuring stucco with imitation slates on its deep-eaved roofs. It consists of five bays, with a prominent deep-eaved pediment at the center. On either side of the center, there are two large 12-pane windows with tilting top panes and stucco cornices supported by console brackets. The pediment includes a roundel, and there is a broad entry beneath a moulded elliptical arch, also on console brackets. The rear wall is made of rubble stone and has a central projection.
Inside, the stable block has a central section that includes a loft and a ground floor room at the rear. The two wings, which house the stables, are accessed through side doors in the central part. In the 20th century, a dividing wall in the right stable was removed, and some plaster ceilings have been lost. The structure features wishbone struts supporting tie-beam trusses. The stables are equipped with cast-iron and timber fittings for the stalls and loose boxes.
