Description
Wiston Castle consists of the ruins of a shell keep situated on a 9-metre high earth motte, which is surrounded by a ditch. A flight of about 50 steps leads up to the rubble stone circular shell keep, which sits on a platform with an 18-metre diameter. The encircling wall is mostly destroyed to the north and is circular on the inside, while the outside has a 16 or 18-sided polygon shape. The walls slope outward and feature a damaged arched entry on the south side, which includes stone voussoirs and draw-bar holes. The wall height varies between 1.5 to 2 metres and 3 to 4 metres, indicating it was originally taller. Inside the entry, stone steps are located to the right.
