Description

The Coach House is a rubble stone building with ashlar dressings and slate roofs, dating from the 18th century. It is a single-storey structure arranged in a U-shaped plan around a courtyard, which has been partly converted for residential use.

The west range features two brick ridge stacks and three sets of stable openings, each with two windows either side of a door, all with cambered brick heads. The windows have ashlar chamfered surrounds and iron small-paned glazing. The right-hand set has 20th-century casements, and a 12-pane sash window has been inserted into the door opening to the right. In the angle between this range and the centre range is a combined window and door, providing access to a 20th-century extension. Further 20th-century additions have been made to the rear of the building to form a house.

The taller, south-facing centre range has one ridge stack to the left and a deep, three-bay hipped slate canopy supported by two timber piers. The piers have diagonal bracing struts and corbels at each end. Three double-ledged doors give access to carriage entries within this range. External steps lead to a loft door on the west end.

The east side mirrors the west, with draft-horse stable entries alternating three doors and three windows, in a similar style to the west range.
