Description
The churchyard wall, gates, and gatepiers belong to the demolished Machpelah Church and are listed as a Grade II structure. The walls are made of stone rubble and enclose the cemetery on three sides, featuring a low front wall with railings, a central gateway, and outer piers. The central gateway includes two sandstone gate piers with flat caps and stepped plinths that support concave curved pedestals topped with ball finials. The wrought iron gates have scrolled top ironwork and dog bars. The walls have been rebuilt with stone coping and reset spearhead iron railings. An inset plaque from the demolished chapel reads 'Machpelah 1842'. The outer piers are made of tooled stone and have a rusticated finish, with square caps and finials. The right end pier is incised with the inscription 'The site of Machpelah Baptist Chapel 1842-1999'.
