Description

Cana Chapel, built between 1856 and 1857, is an Independent Chapel constructed from squared rubble stone with a slate roof and bracketted eaves on the sides. The end facade facing the road likely originally featured a bracketted gable or open pediment, which has since been cut back. It has two long arched windows fitted with 50-pane sashes and intersecting glazing bars at the heads. Above the arched doorway is a plaque that reads 'Cana. Independents. Built 1857. Rev E. Lewis Minister.' The arches are made of painted cut stone, the windows have slate sills, and the doorway includes matching intersecting bars in the fanlight and double panelled doors. The sides of the chapel are two stories high with two windows, each containing 16-pane sashes and stone voussoirs, and there are two long windows at the ends.

The forecourt wall along the road features four rubble stone piers topped with concave pyramid coping and ball finials. There are central iron gates, low outer walls with slate coping, and matching iron railings.

Inside, there is a three-sided gallery supported by marbled timber columns, a panelled gallery front, and plain box pews. The chapel also includes a panelled pulpit.
