Description
This building is a windmill that has been adapted as a machine-gun post. The cylindrical base survives to a height of about 5 meters and is constructed from local stonework in irregular courses. There is a ground level entrance on the east side. The original apertures on the north and south sides of the upper level are now blocked with masonry, and these openings feature lintels with relieving arches above.
Inside, the structure has been reinforced all around with brickwork. There are step-irons for access through a manhole to the upper level. The upper floor is made of concrete laid on corrugated iron sheeting, which rests on re-used railway rails. Bricks surround the manhole. There are four apertures with concrete lintels, steel frames, and shutters, although only traces of the shutters remain. These apertures have wide external splays made of wood and brick, allowing for 360-degree visibility. The building does not have a roof.
