Description
The garden walls and gate at The Old Rectory date from the 19th century and enclose the garden on the south and east sides. The south wall is partly adjacent to the access steps at the north end of Bell-Tree House. At the eastern end of the south wall, there is an entrance flanked by a pair of gate piers made of dressed stone, which have capping. The entrance features a pair of cast-iron gates with spear-headed finials and uprights that form an ogival pattern, topped with a curved overthrow rail.
To the west of the entrance, a higher wall backs onto the outside steps at the north end of Bell-Tree House and extends towards an outbuilding at the southwest corner of Bell-Tree House. This wall has a projection with a recessed alcove, featuring stone voussoirs for the arched head and a flat parapet that backs onto the steps of Bell-Tree House. The parapet is slightly higher on the right and continues to a square pier, with a lower wall extending to the right. From the entrance gateway, a rubble stone wall runs along the east side of the garden to the southeast corner of The Old Rectory.
