Description
The Former Tenby Market Cross and well-chamber is a medieval structure featuring a cross shaft mounted on the front wall of a square rubble stone well-chamber that incorporates re-used medieval arcading. The well-chamber has a narrow doorway at the front, with the head rising into the center bay of a band of reused late medieval arcading, which may have originated from a large window. This band includes three cusped pointed heads and a half head at each end. Above this is a projecting coping made of flat stones, followed by a two-step parapet of rubble stone that supports the cross itself. The cross has a square base, which is likely not medieval, and a sandstone shaft above it. The shaft is octagonal, standing 2.2 meters high and measuring 0.35 meters by 0.25 meters at the base. The well-chamber behind features a tall and narrow design with a brick pointed vault and a slate gabled roof.
