Description
Green Price Almshouses are a group of four Arts and Crafts style almshouses, influenced by the work of Norman Shaw, built in the 20th century. The buildings are two stories high, featuring higher cross ranges on the left and right. The ground floor is constructed of rubble, while the first floor is half-timbered with concave-sided diamonds. The roofs are tiled with decorative cresting and there are two prominent brick chimney stacks.
The broad gables have moulded bargeboards and wide boarded eaves, with a jettied treatment over paired splayed oriels that have moulded glazing bars and curved brackets on the first floor. On the ground floor, there are two 6-pane casement windows on the left and right. The central set-back gables also feature moulded bargeboards and cusped braces, along with a four-light window.
A tiled lean-to roof forms a porch for Nos 16 and 17, while Nos 15 and 18 are accessed through separate tiled hooded porches supported by curved brackets. The side elevations are made of rubble with a half-timbered gable, and the rear of the gables has half-hipped roofs.
The garden is entered through a lych-gate with open timberwork and a pitched roof, which has two wooden gates. The garden is enclosed by a rubble boundary wall with gate piers. A plaque set into the outer face of the wall to the right of the gate reads: "Erected in memory of Richard Dansey and Clara Ann Green Price by Devoted Children 1930."
