Description

Green Price Almshouses are a group of four Arts and Crafts-style almshouses built in the early 20th century, influenced by the designs of Norman Shaw. The buildings are two stories high, featuring higher cross ranges on the left and right. The ground floor is constructed of rubble, while the first floor is half-timbered with concave-sided diamond patterns. The roofs are tiled and adorned with cresting, and there are two prominent brick chimney stacks.

The broad gables have moulded bargeboards and wide boarded eaves, with a jettied treatment over paired splayed oriel windows that feature moulded glazing bars and curved brackets on the first floor. On the ground floor, there are two 6-pane casement windows on either side. The central gables are set back and have moulded bargeboards with cusped braces, and a four-light window.

A tiled lean-to roof creates a porch for Nos 16 and 17, while Nos 15 and 18 have separate entrances under tiled hooded porches supported by curved brackets. The side elevations are made of rubble with half-timbered gables, and the rear of the gables has half-hipped roofs.

Access to the garden is through a lych-gate featuring open timberwork and two wooden gates. The garden is enclosed by a rubble boundary wall with gate piers. A plaque on the outer face of the wall to the right of the gate reads: "Erected in memory of Richard Dansey and Clara Ann Green Price by Devoted Children 1930."
