Description

The Friary is a three-storey red brick building dating from around 1900, featuring a slate roof and wide bracket eaves, although the chimneys have been removed. The front has three windows with freestone quoins and a plinth. The first and second floors have small pane sash windows, consisting of six and two panes, which are adorned with rendered voussoirs and keystones. The ground floor windows are four-light with a high transom and casement openings, set within an architrave made of Ruabon brick, featuring a cambered head and keystone.

Inside, the porch is whitewashed and includes a half-glazed door with stained glass, along with a later broad ironwork porch supported by garlanded uprights. The coach house has a Ruabon brick facade with a crenellated cornice, a broad cambered carriage entry with a keystone and architrave, and double half-glazed and boarded doors. Above the entry are two pies and a fleuron band, with a lean-to roof behind the facade that features a 12-pane sash window, likely reused from the ground floor.

The left gable end is slate hung, while the right side is red brick with a small lean-to. A white-painted stone figure of Our Lady is set on a small rockery. In the late 19th century, the rear of the building was extended, with the original building's quoins still visible. The roof pitch continues, and there is a three-light casement window and a 12-pane sash. A later two-storey kitchen range made of Ruabon brick was added to the right rear, featuring cambered architraves, horned sash windows, and a four-panel back door. The rear wall has few windows due to the hillside being cut away. This extension does not span the full width, and a further lean-to extension from the early 20th century was added to the left rear to raise an original one-storey range.

The interior showcases Edwardian details in the ground floor rooms, including fireplaces and three-well ceilings.
