Description

Lower Trelowgoed is a 1½-storey, three-window farmhouse built from rubble stone, featuring a steep slate roof and stone end stacks, with the right stack being larger. The openings are offset to the left side, with the entrance further to the left, consisting of a boarded door. The windows, including dormers, are 2-light 19th-century casements set under stone heads in the lower storey. The left-hand window is boarded up. The rear of the house has a similar layout, with a doorway offset to the right; however, it has three windows in the lower storey, and the lower right-hand window is also boarded up.

Inside, the cross passage has been blocked opposite the main entrance but retains a chamfered head-beam. The entrance is located immediately beside the staircase, which is from the 19th century and does not align with the original stairs, as indicated by a blocked window. The unusual plan features a large room before the parlour, reminiscent of the earlier Great Cantel in Llanbister. There is a lath and plaster partition to the right, leading to the parlour, which retains a timber bressumer over the fireplace that includes a domed bread oven and a blocked recess to the right, with a simply scroll-stopped beam. A full-height recess backing onto the stairs is said to have contained a cheese press in the past. The chimney at the uphill end heats the kitchen, which has a six-panel door and a blocked fireplace, along with the remains of a studded partition to the rear. Upstairs, there are oak boarded doors, and the roof is ceiled at collar level.
