Description

Poolton and Gortheur is a Grade II listed building consisting of a main house, Poolton, which is two stories with a basement, and a parallel single-storey northeast wing, along with a rear wing, Gortheur, that has one-and-a-half stories. The structure is built of brick and features a slate roof with coped gables on moulded kneelers and gable stacks, one of which has been replaced.

The west front has two windows and a prominent cornice made of white and red brick. The upper storey contains 16-pane sash windows located below the eaves, while the lower storey features windows with hood moulds. The basement has small-pane casements in two-light configurations under flat brick arches. The right gable connects to the cross-gable of the rear wing, which has a further recessed bay with a dormer. The dormer includes a small-pane casement, and the cross-gable has a similar window with a hood mould. The gable of the main house features a sash window with a hood mould to the right.

The right gable of the main range also includes a porch with steps leading up to a four-panelled door on the east side, which has a cornice similar to the front of the house. A fixed light with stained glass margin glazing is located in the south wall of the porch. To the left of the porch is a doorway to the basement with double doors, while to the right are two-light mullioned windows with hood moulds in the rear wing, along with a doorway on the extreme right that is modern and situated inside a shallow modern porch.

The rear wing is built on a sloping site and features a brick plinth with a stone plinth band. The doorway is accessed by a brick-paved path on a rubble stone plinth, enclosed by an iron gate and railings. The left gable end of the main house has doorways to the house and basement that are similar to the front but plainer. The northeast wing has sash windows that match those on the front.

The building was not inspected in November 1996.
