Description

3 Castle Terrace is a three-storey terrace building made of red brick laid in Flemish bond. It features a deep-eaved roof that imitates slates, with a hipped design at the original northeast corner and a gabled east projection that includes a brick stack. The terrace consists of three houses: No 1 is a two-bay house with a door located in the third bay to the left; No 2 is a narrower house with a two-plus-one bay layout; and No 3 is positioned at right angles across the northern end. There is a partial straight joint between Nos 1 and 2, and the stonework in the south gable of No 1, along with different brickwork in the south end gable of No 3, indicates that extensive modifications have occurred.

No 3 has its main front oriented at right angles to the row, featuring a regular three-bay design. The roof hip suggests that the facade has been slightly extended to the left with the gabled east-facing projection. A brickwork joint indicates that the right bay is an addition. The windows are cambered-headed small-paned iron casements, with pairs in the left and center bays, and a triple window with smaller panes in the right bay. The center doorway is topped with a thin pedimental hood supported by carved wooden brackets. The door frame is moulded with angle blocks, and the ledged door includes thin cover strips and two glass panels.

The east end projection has deep gable verges, with the left verge supported by a raking post due to the projection being narrower than the gable. This projection features a square hipped bay window with iron small-paned glazing on three sides. On the first floor, there is an iron small single casement window with a crude wooden hood-mould. The west end gable has a large chimney breast that is truncated below the gable level, along with a smaller gabled projection facing south, which runs parallel to the main rear wall. There are blocked wide arched openings in the south wall of this gabled projection, partly within the lean-to extension of No 2. The interior has not been inspected.
