Description
Bridge 139 over The Montgomeryshire Canal is a late 19th-century swing bridge that carries a driveway over the canal on the west side of the A483, located immediately southwest of Maes Fron and approximately 0.3 kilometers south of Fron Post Office Stores.
The bridge features bellied cast-iron girders that support the decking, which swings into a blue brick turning circle on the western bank of the canal. The rails on either side of the bridge are likely later additions or replacements.
This bridge is an interesting example of an iron-girder swing bridge and is one of the very few remaining from the later 19th-century engineering work on the Montgomeryshire Canal.
