Description

These are two houses of two and a half storeys, situated on Gas Street in Newtown. They are constructed with a timber frame, featuring brick nogged square panels set within a rubble and brick plinth. The buildings have raised, boarded eaves and gently pitched slate roofs, complemented by plain bargeboards and a central brick stack. Gabled dormers are visible on the C19 top storey, and the roofs are further embellished with ornamental bargeboards and finials. Sills are positioned below the eaves. The right-hand house has small-paned cross windows, while the left-hand house features two canted oriels on the first floor and similar modern windows. The right-hand house also contains a canted Victorian oriel flanked by a sash window, along with a narrow sash and a shallow six-pane sash window on the ground floor, with modern windows to the ground floor. Doorways are offset to the right side, each sheltered by a bracketed gabled hood, and a C19 door is present on the right. Internally, the buildings feature stop-chamfered axial beams and square panel, timber framed partition walls.
